I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding; and there it was, all overgrown with thorns; its surface was covered with nettles; its stone wall was broken down. When I saw it, I considered it well; I looked on it and received instruction: A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest; so shall your poverty come like a prowler, and your need like an armed man.
This is a story from Proverbs 24 in the Bible. The first thing it teaches us is something many of us need to learn: work hard. Or, maybe that could be simplified to simply: work. Think about how much time we spend relaxing or "rewarding" ourselves for a day of work. But the thing that really stands out about this story, and the thing that I wish we could all learn to do is this: "When I saw it, I considered it well; I looked on it and received instruction." The man that wrote this was a thinker. We should become thinkers. Don't just wiz through life doing everything everyone else is doing and doing things the way they have always been done. Think. Pray. Listen. Receive instruction. God has things to teach us but we need to train ourselves to slow down enough to see the lessons that He has for us in everyday life. Be curious. Ask questions.
